Ed Ambler Gardens

In addition to the dry stone work and landscaping we offer a property maintenance and restoration service, incorporating traditional lime pointing, lime plastering and rendering, masonry repair, to restore and preserve our architectural heritage, and make your home beautiful inside and out.

You may wish to re-point some, or all, of your masonry if the existing lime has been weathered away, where it is loose, or to replace cement mortar. Lime plastering and rendering allows the walls to breathe, improving the life and health of your building, and restoring ts traditional appearance. Internal walls, beautifully pointed and plastered with traditional lime can make stunning and stand-out features giving new life to traditional interiors.

"The routine use of cement pointing in old buildings is a common mistake. Not only is it disfiguring, but it leads, more seriously, to faster deterioration of bricks and stones as they become the most permeable part of the wall and suffer the greatest frost and salt action.

Lime mortar does not adhere as strongly to masonry as cement. This is an advantage with Cotswold stone, where in many cases the cement pulls away  stone when it reaches the end of its life, lime will not do this."

Repointing with lime will help to preserve your masonry and greatly improve the appearance and value of your home.
